Educational & Professional Experience

Joshua Youse serves as a medical assistant and phlebotomist at Coastal Direct Health & Wellness. He obtained his Bachelors of Science in Education at Unity College in Maine in Adventure Education Leadership and Wilderness Therapy. During that time he obtained his certification as a Wilderness First Responder and subsequently underwent a year of national service as a field team leader in AmeriCorps National Civilian Conservation Corps where he completed training as a wildland firefighter with the Nature Conservancy. He is currently in nursing school at Brunswick Community College.

Like the Nomides sisters, he is also a Pennsylvania native. He made his way down to Wilmington in 2010 as a camp director and surf instructor with the WB surf camp. He then worked with the National Center for Outdoor Adventure Education (NCOAE) as a course director and field instructor in addition to spending some time as an elementary after school teacher.

Josh’s interest in medicine led to his certification as a Nursing Assistant. He initially worked at Trinity Grove skilled nursing facility for two years. He went on to become a psychiatric technician at Strategic Behavioral Health Center and then was hired at New Hanover Regional Medical Center as an Emergency Department technician with the plan to obtain his Master’s Degree in Medical Science and become a Physician Assistant. As an ED tech, he is trained in phlebotomy, obtaining EKGs, specimen collection, splinting and as a member of the trauma response team.

Background & Interests

Josh and his wife Jennifer have two daughters, Calista and Eleni and Josh loves being a girl dad.

He has a passion for the outdoors and spent several years leading conservation crews with the Student Conservation Association. He enjoys back country camping, hiking, outdoor exploring and of course being on the beach as a surfer. He loves volunteering with Ocean Cure, an amazing nonprofit in Carolina Beach whose mission is to provide increased beach accessibility to our coast, and to help improve the quality of life for their participants through surfing. Their focus is on people with disabilities and helping through the use of beach wheel chairs, accessible flooring, and adaptive surf boards.

Josh enjoys traveling, particularly internationally, and spent six months in Guatemala helping to run a small surf hotel on the beach. He has also had adventures in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Australia. He is also a local musician and you can find him playing his unique originals around town.
